About 1 hour south of Jacksonville , and just as convenient to parts of central Florida, St. Augustine serves as the cradle of Florida’s history and that of the Spanish Empire in the New World. The settlement was established in 1565, and is now centered around historical attractions such as the Castillo de San Marcos, Ft. Matanzas and railroad magnate Henry Flagler’s Ponce de Leon Hotel (now Flagler College).
From historic Spanish Colonial homes near the modern-day shopping district on Sevilla Street, to Victorian, Mediterranean and beach styles, many of St. Augustine’s vibrant neighborhoods offer the prestige and prosperity of the early 1900s.
